I have been looking for some info and I learn that.bashprofile is only read when bash launch an interactive login shell (default type of terminal in OS X) and.bashrc is only read when bash launch an interactive non-login shell. On Mac OS X Yosemite, run the following command: vi /.profile Then add the following line: source /.bashrc Now save and close.profile, then open a new Terminal window or just run: source /.profile See also this answer. It worked on v10.10.3. So turns out that on Mac OS X Snow Leopard as well as Mac OS X Lion, the file that's loaded is called.profile, not.bashrc. What you want to do is create a file in /.profile and call it.profile (if it doesn't already exists). Put whatever information you needed to. I am on mac SierraOS found it '/etc/bashrc'. The system wide bashrc was not hidden.bashrc. To manipulate it I had to 'sudo vi bashrc' to exit after editing::wq! If you follow the instruction from OS X Command Line - Sublime Text to launch ST3 with subl then you can just do this $ subl /.bashprofile.
